About the Club
A not-for-profit youth basketball club with over 40 years of history in the Kingston and Chessington community — developing players on and off the court since 1983.
40 Years of Kingston Basketball
Kingston Wildcats was founded in 1983 as the Tolworth Reckers — one of the earliest youth basketball clubs in the area. After a decade of growth, the club became Chessington Wildcats in 1994 and then took on the Kingston Wildcats identity in 1998.
The club's greatest achievements include two national trophies and a Wembley Arena final appearance in 2000. Today, Kingston Wildcats competes in the Central Venue League (CVL) and National Basketball League (NBL) across age groups from U10s to U18s.
We are a not-for-profit club affiliated to Basketball England. Every penny of membership fees is reinvested directly into players, facilities and game fees — nothing goes elsewhere.
Our alumni register is growing. If you played for Kingston Wildcats at any point since 1983, we want to add your name to the record. Browse the register or submit your details.
What makes us different
Here are the reasons families choose Kingston Wildcats — and why players stay for years.
Every player has a defined route from Saturday beginner sessions all the way to NBL competition. Our pathway is aligned to Basketball England's Player Development Framework, so players develop with a national structure behind them.
View the pathway →Every penny of membership fees is reinvested into the club — facilities, game fees, player equipment. We have no profit motive. Our only goal is to develop young basketball players in the Kingston and Chessington community.
We welcome complete beginners through our Saturday sessions, and our best players compete in the NBL. There are no permanent barriers between the two — any player in our CVL squads can be selected for National League at any point.
Saturday sessions →Six coaches, each DBS-checked and qualified. Our coaching team has deep roots in the club — they are committed to developing players for the long term, not just winning on Saturday. Coach Addy's Friday Night Skills sessions are among the best development opportunities in the region.
Meet the coaches →We follow Basketball England's philosophy of long-term athlete development — developing players who love basketball at 25, not just at 14. This means every decision at the club is made with the player's future in mind, not next week's result.
BE Framework →A dedicated Child Welfare Officer (Louise Wadham) covers all age groups. We operate under Basketball England's safeguarding policies. Every coach holds a current DBS check. Your child's safety is always our first priority.
Welfare information →Our Four Principles
Every coaching and club decision is guided by these four principles — applied equally across all age groups and pathways.
Any CVL player can earn a National League place through hard work. No permanent barriers. Every session is an audition.
Dual registration is the norm, not the exception. More meaningful game time accelerates player growth faster than anything else.
Not-for-profit. All fees reinvested into players, facilities and game fees. Basketball accessible to every young person in our community.
